Omron Electronic Components Europe recently expanded its wide range of high-performance DC relays with the introduction of two new variants: the G9EK-1-UTU and G9EK-1-E.

These devices offer gas-free interruptions for high currents and voltages above 500 VDC, distinguished by their compact design and exceptional energy efficiency. These features make them ideal for applications such as rapid chargers for electric vehicles (EVs), batteries, and photovoltaic (PV) inverters.

Performance in small spaces

One of the main challenges for high-current applications, such as batteries, is handling large currents in small spaces. Although contactors are commonly used, they are often bulky. Omron’s new G9EK relays solve this problem by offering high capacities in a small size:

G9EK-1-UTU: Handles up to 500 VDC at 120 A.

G9EK-1-E: Supports up to 500 VDC at 200 A.

Both modelsm of DC relays can withstand abnormal currents up to 5,000 A, ensuring safe and reliable interruption. With dimensions of only 64.2 mm (H) x 86 mm (W) x 47.7 mm (W), these relays eliminate the need for a dedicated arc space, enabling more compact and safer designs.

Bi-directional solutions and maximum resistance

Omron relays offer bi-directional performance and high maximum interrupting capability: G9EK-1-UTU: Emergency interruption up to 500 A and G9EK-1-E: Emergency interruption up to 1,000 A. By using two units in series, a total of 1,000 VDC can be safely interrupted, improving short-circuit resistance and optimizing application performance.

Ruggedness for mobile applications

Designed for mobile applications, the new G9EK relays demonstrate high resistance to vibration and shock. They can withstand impacts of up to 100 G while maintaining reliable operation and provide a minimum mechanical life of 200,000 operations. In addition, thanks to the gas-free design, which cools the arcs without the use of special materials or parts, the devices have a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to competing products, eliminating the risk of gas leaks.
