BYD Auto Company Limited is building its first European passenger car plant. To equip the facility with painting technology, BYD has selected Dürr. Over the coming months, the German mechanical and plant engineering company will send more than 120 robots to Hungary for various painting lines. These robots, equipped with EcoBell3 atomizers, ensure exceptional quality and promote sustainable painting processes.
The painting lines will feature Dürr’s latest EcoRP series painting robots, available in six- and seven-axis variants for interior and exterior painting. The seven-axis robot offers high precision and flexibility for interior painting, even reaching difficult-to-access areas. Six-axis robots will handle the painting of exterior surfaces. The scope of delivery also includes door, hood, and tailgate openers to assist in the painting process.
The high-speed rotary atomizers EcoBell3 ensure flawless paint quality with uniform tone, flow, and layer thickness. Combined with associated cleaning equipment and color-change technology, this atomizer family minimizes paint and solvent consumption and allows for quick color changes within cycle time. In the future, BYD will also be able to sustainably implement customer-specific color requests using Dürr’s modular and standardized EcoSupply P paint supply system with cleaning painting technology. “Pigs” (fittings that perfectly match the inner diameter of the pipes) push paint towards the color changer, returning any residual paint to the container without leaving a trace and eliminating the need for cleaning. This process reduces paint and rinsing agent consumption, enhancing both cost efficiency and environmental protection.
