NXD is the next-generation surface protection solution designed by NORD Drivesystems to enhance the durability and resistance of aluminium drive systems. Tailored for use in extreme environments, the new treatment aims to ensure long-lasting performance and hygiene safety, particularly in industries with demanding operating and cleaning conditions. The NXD surface treatment is now available in two distinct variants: NXD BASIC® and NXD tupH®. Both versions offer galvanised aluminium surfaces for improved corrosion resistance, but with differing application focuses. NXD BASIC® includes a galvanically-produced base layer with an added varnish. It is designed to maintain its protective qualities even if the varnish is damaged, making it suitable for harsh environments such as offshore facilities. NXD tupH®, on the other hand, is developed specifically for hygienically sensitive applications. The galvanised base is sealed to prevent flaking and microcracks, ensuring a safe, food-grade surface.

According FDA regulations and the EU’s Regulation 1935/200

Compliant with FDA regulations and the EU’s Regulation 1935/2004, it is ideal for food processing, pharmaceuticals, and other hygiene-critical sectors. The sealed surface also resists the acids and alkalis used during routine wash-down procedures, maintaining integrity and safety over time. By integrating NXD across its product line, NORD combines enhanced surface protection with the inherent benefits of aluminium: lightweight construction, excellent thermal conductivity, cost-efficiency, and full recyclability. The NXD treatment is available for all aluminium components produced by NORD, including the DuoDrive integrated geared motor system, IE5+ smooth motors, and the NORDBLOC.1® series of helical and bevel gear units. A decentralised frequency inverter, NORDAC ON PURE, with NXD tupH® interface, is also set to be released, allowing the company to offer complete, food-safe drive systems from a single source.
