During a press conference announcing the launch of Qinomic’s new electric retrofit solution for light commercial vehicles (LCVs), Stellantis Pro One confirmed its continued support and collaboration on the initiative.
The project, which began approximately two and a half years ago in partnership with SUSTAINera—the Stellantis Business Unit dedicated to Circular Economy efforts—has now culminated in the introduction of a technology that enables owners of conventionally powered LCVs to convert their vehicles to electric drive. This solution offers significant advantages, including reduced operating costs, a lower environmental footprint, and greater freedom of mobility without the need to purchase a new vehicle.
Initially, the technology will be available in France and will target Stellantis Pro One’s mid-size vans: the Fiat Professional Scudo, Opel Vivaro, Peugeot Expert, and Citroën Jumpy. Under the terms of a “win-win” collaboration, Qinomic will purchase more than 200 original components—primarily related to the battery and electric motor—directly from Stellantis for the retrofit process. Meanwhile, Stellantis will recover the removed thermal components, such as the internal combustion engine, transmission, fuel tank, and exhaust system. Depending on their condition and mileage, these components will either be reintroduced into the SUSTAINera circular economy program for reuse or undergo remanufacturing.
By offering this OEM-quality retrofit solution—meeting stringent standards for safety, durability, and homologation—the project supports the transition towards zero CO₂ emissions while extending the operational life of existing vehicles. This provides fleet operators and vehicle owners with a sustainable, cost-effective alternative to vehicle replacement.
The initiative marks another significant step in Stellantis’ electrification and decarbonization strategy, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility. Through partnerships like the one with Qinomic, Stellantis aims to preserve freedom of movement while delivering safe, environmentally conscious, and affordable solutions to its customers.
