Donut Lab introduced a groundbreaking donut-shaped electric motor designed to be integrated directly into vehicle wheels. This innovative solution is more compact and lighter than its predecessors, offering exceptional torque and power performance while halving production costs.

Weighing just 40 kg, the motor eliminates the need for drive shafts, further reducing vehicle weight and enabling precise control of driving force thanks to its direct connection between the motor and wheel rim.

The technical specifications are equally impressive: donut-shaped electric motor is compatible with 21-inch rims and, in its high-performance version, delivers up to 845 hp and 4,300 Nm of torque. Theoretically, a four-wheel-drive vehicle equipped with four of these motors could achieve a total output of 3,380 hp and an astounding 17,200 Nm of torque.

Donut Lab is developing various motor variants to suit a wide range of electric vehicles. These include a 272 hp version with 3,000 Nm of torque for commercial vehicles and a more compact 22 hp model for electric scooters.

This technology has the potential to revolutionize not only the automotive sector but also urban mobility and autonomous vehicle markets.

Donut Lab’s cutting-edge motor represents a significant leap forward in electric propulsion, offering an optimal balance of performance, efficiency, and compactness. However, its real-world applications and the adoption by automakers remain to be seen as the industry explores the possibilities of this promising technology.
